Whips & Whispers

Morgan is dissatisfied with her love life.  She feels the need to explore her sexuality in unconventional ways and considers placing a personal ad and even discusses it with her best friend, Liz.  Before she can do so, she meets her Master through her real estate business.  Simon is interested in buying an old castle moved years ago brick by brick from England to Maine.  Morgan goes to check out the old, musty, rat infested place and finds herself fantasizing in an empty bedroom.  She frees her inhibitions since she knows she is alone and masturbates.  Unknown to Morgan, Simon has stopped by to check out the place and walks in through the open door.  After watching her unintentional show, he leaves while making sure she sees him.  Simon can’t resist coming back and putting her under his control.

Morgan is torn in her feelings for this dominant and seemingly cold man.  She is also afraid as she knows nothing about him, but she allows herself to be sucked into his world and under his domination as he brutally and quickly introduces her to the world of BDSM and all it entails.  She willingly allows Simon to bind her, whip her and share her with his friends.  As Simon’s slave, Morgan finds fulfillment while questioning within herself and questioning all she has held dear.

Whips and Whispers is not for the faint of heart.  Maria Isabel Pita has written a strong story of self-discovery and exploration.  Morgan is an interesting character and while you can understand the pull to just go with this man, I wonder if her self-preservation should be stronger as well as her loyalties to friends.  Simon is very intense and charismatic as are the other men in this story.  You can understand Morgan’s attraction to each one of them and her willingness to do Simon’s bidding.  You truly don’t know which way she will choose in the end until you read the last page.  Intriguing.
