Abby Fouchet is a triple threat. In the entertainment and theatre industry that means that she’s a singer, dancer and actress. Triple threat. She has decided to pursue her dreams of making it in Broadway by leaving El Paso, Texas and moving to the big, bad city of New York. There she experiences the ups and downs of being a struggling performer, makes new friends, and meets Johnny Gerard, the newest and hottest rising soap star. Things get really interesting when Abby’s usually dormant second sight acts up and she sees a young man being run over by a white limo. A white limo that she had seen Johnny Gerard get into when he was picked up by some ritzy bimbo he called Tracy…
The visions don’t stop there. As Johnny and Abby get to know each other better, things get more and more dangerous—with someone trying to shoot them in broad daylight at Central Park and Abby getting visions that show evidence of someone’s death. Johnny’s death. Abby has to figure out what is simmering under the surface of the sex, lies and politics before time runs out.
Sweet Dreams is a heart-warming book that shows such witty repartee between the characters you feel like they’re real. It’s a book that narrates a story that we can all relate to. All of us have dreamt of going to the big city and finding our destiny. That’s what Abby is trying to do. When you read Sweet Dreams, you can feel her struggle and you cheer her on because you know how hard it is to fight for your dream and keep going even when all the odds are against you.
Flo Fitzpatrick uses great imagery by conjuring them up from popular media. The witty repartees are a work of genius! Very, very entertaining! She is also able to bring out the flavors of New York—from the darker side of the city to its more funky and interesting aspects. The supporting characters are fascinating, intriguing and a lot of times hilarious and amusing in their antics. All in all, I say that Sweet Dreams is truly a dream of a book!
