Title:
Somebody
Wonderful |
Timona Calverson was an adventuress of sorts. She was famous for travelling around the world with her father and brother in search of artifacts and such archeological finds. And she, like any other overzealous adventuress, was in trouble.
She had finally gotten away from the ruffians who had kidnapped her and brought her to a brothel when she was cornered by a group of youths, ganging up on her. But things take a turn for the worse when she gets conked in the head everything goes pitch black…
Michael McCann was a policeman. He was on his way home when he heard a noise and peered down a street and found a young boy being attacked by ruffians. Fortunately, he was able to help. Unfortunately, she turned out to be a very beautiful young woman… who seemed to be a soiled dove.
What Michael doesn’t know is that Timona was an heiress. A very popular and rich heiress at that. She hasn’t told him about that little titbit yet, thinking to herself that they needed time to get to know each other. Especially since she had decided that she was going to marry him.
I loved this book! The characterization was fantabulous! The heroine, Timona, manages to be sweet and yet at the same time bold as brass. Because of this, the book is not only original, it is also entertaining, charming, forthright and fresh. She manages to be naïve and worldly at the same time, one of the most truly unique characters that I have ever encountered.
With the hero, Michael being a determined, firm and strong-minded individual, the mix is even more complex and interesting. More so when I felt a sense of confusion in him and yet there was a sense of purpose too. His confusion was more because he felt like he didn’t belong. He lived in a world of indifference, a world where people didn’t care. But Michael had heart and he felt and empathized with others. He cared. So he carved out a world where he was the leader, he was the person everyone went to for help. And in his way, I think that Michael is teaching us that we can make a difference. If we all just cared about others and not just about ourselves, our world can be a better place.
The characters were really something in Somebody Wonderful. Timona is not at all the typical miss and Michael not the typical hero; and I’d definitely say that this book is a rare gem because of it! It proves just how much a book can be apart from the “formula” of a romance book and have such a great, original story. People who need a breath of freshness and who are tired of the old romance book where the miss is a retiring society debutante and the hero a titled lord should buy Somebody Wonderful. I guarantee that it will change your perspective and leave you wanting more of Ms. Rothwell’s work! Her characters are lovable and her story exciting, you’ll definitely fall in love with the genuine kindness and love that a man like Michael can have for a woman he thinks he can never have because of the social divide that separates them. I loved the way Ms. Rothwell showed how much anguish Michael felt when he realized that he was falling in love with Timona and the inadequacy of his station in life. It was very real and believable. Way to go, Ms. Rothwell!!! Somebody Wonderful is a great story! A book that I will never forget!
