Frances Townley (as Mary Marvellous) arrives just in time to tell Prince Charles Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) to not invade London but to retreat to Scotland. Bonnie Prince Charlie heeds Mary’s words but wonders like his followers Ranald Macgregor, Francis O’Neil and Lord George Murray how such a lass came by her information. Surely she wasn’t a, a witch? As the prince returns to Scotland, he’s surrounded by his most loyal supporters as they guard him to keep him safe from harm. But that doesn’t stop Prince Charlie from indulging himself with two of London’s most famed and beautiful actresses.
Forever grateful to Mary, Prince Charlie asks her what she wants. Mary only wants a home and a pardon for a friend which the prince grants. He also becomes her guardian since every single woman has to have one. Prince Charlie only wants what’s best for Mary but he may be the only one. Francis O’Neill and Ranald (Ran) MacGregor have their sights set on Mary Marvellous too. Each man in turn, wants to exploit her ‘supposed’ witchcraft to further their respective nations. They don’t know Mary Marvellous isn’t a witch, no not at all. Mary’s a time traveler from the 21st century. Frances Townley has travelled back in time to change what Prince Charles does in the 18th century.
Jackie Rose seems well acquainted with 18th century history. She’s done an excellent job with manipulating the facts which has helped the story flow nicely. It is interesting to read that character Frances Townley actually studied how to act like people did in the 18th century, in order for her to carry out her task. Readers will like the part about the time police. Frances has broken a law and even she is taken aback to see the time police have come for her. I recommend to readers they purchase Prince Charlie’s Witch. It’s a really lovely piece of literature.
