Fera is a werewolf, from the pure wolf line. Her brother, Hood, believes that this distinction makes them supreme to other werewolves. Fewer so-called 'pure' werewolves are being born. Mating with someone who is not pure line, or an unnatural (not that there are many of those, since they are exterminated as soon as their existence is known) would 'contaminate' her, so now that she is coming into heat for the first time, she needs to be secluded, to make sure she doesn't mate with any 'undesirables' in the midst of her heat, when she is unable to control her sexual impulses - especially since there is an unnatural roaming free in Pack City, although the pack are fast on his heels.

Jack, once human, was bitten by a werewolf and is now one himself. Now considered an unnatural by other
werewolves, he is being hunted - but the scent of a female coming into heat has drawn him to Pack City, a
stronghold of those attempting to run him down. To gain access to this female, he has to enter enemy territory -
and 'steal away' Fera, who goes with him willingly. But with the pack on their heels, will he succeed in mating
her?

This is the third story in Ms Weldon's Wanton Werewolf Series but is by far the best. Significantly longer than the
prequel and the first story, it continues to be told by the main character (Fera), directly addressing the reader,
making this series fairly original. Another refreshing aspect of this series is that werewolves can take on different
forms: human, lupus or crinos. This is not something I have come across before. Also, this series details
different ways in which werewolves come to exist. They are either born so (as human, lupus or crinos), they are
born as kin (these are the breeders), then turn into werewolves at a certain age, or humans who are bitten by a
werewolf (but this last kind are quickly exterminated). However, this series is not for everyone, particularly those who prefer the characters to have long and happy lives together. Although not made as apparent in this tale as in the previous stories in this series, the lives the 'loving couple' will have together are short. The entire series is based on a life for the moment premise, with members of the pack continually fighting for supremacy, thus killing one another (particularly the bitches in the pack). Had this tale been in paperback form, it would not have been destined for the keeper shelf. Having said that, if you enjoy werewolf tales then this is worth a read, if only to gain an understanding that there are a wide range of plotlines available in this genre.
