Joey Vernon dislikes Heath Campbell immensely – but she is also extremely attracted to him. He’s not her usual type. Normally she’s attracted to ‘pretty boys’, as her best friend, Marlow, describes them. Heath is anything but a ‘pretty boy’. He’s big boned, 6’4”, with chestnut hair, hazel eyes, a square jaw and a boorish personality (according to Joey). That’s why she can’t understand her attraction to him. Anytime they come into contact with each other, the sparks fly. But Joey isn’t willing to act on her attraction to him – after all, they work together, and becoming involved could be disastrous. Especially when the relationship ends – and it will end, because Joey doesn’t want to be dependant on a man for her happiness, she doesn’t want to get married and she doesn’t want to have children. Having been shunned by her family for most of her life, she knows what it’s like to be hurt, afraid...dependant on others for a happiness that doesn’t come to pass. She knows she has to make her own happiness. But now she and Heath are going on a business trip together – just the two of them, and she hasn’t had sex in two months! Oh boy, the sparks are going to fly!

Heath Campbell has been hiding his intense attraction to Joey for over a year. Every day he works with a hard-on, just at the thought of seeing her. He’s amazed that at the end of the day he is still functioning – because all of the blood has drained from his head to regions south of the border. Now they’re going on a business trip together – only there’s just one room available at the resort: the honeymoon suite. Heath’s control snaps and he makes Joey an offer she finds impossible to refuse: a week long affair. But what will happen when the week is up?

I have not previously read any of Ms Schroeder’s work. Having read this story, I can honestly say I am definitely going to read more, especially Liam and Marlow’s story (best friend of Joey and brother of Heath). I found this story to be a very sensual tale, concerning two characters who are both likeable and realistic. Joey is a person who has been hurt previously, by her own family, of all people! Heath is a man who never expected to settle down, especially with a woman who has a smart-ass attitude. Undoubtedly, most people know people, or know of people, who share the same or similar characteristics as these characters, thus it is possible to see how, although these characters are fictional, their personality traits are very much evident in Western society. I would recommend this fairly short story to everyone, and hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.
