". Kate Hill's imaginative prose paints a unique, tantalizing, action packed vampire plot, complete with intricate characters with colourful lives! "

Hunk Mathew Winters, an Immaculate vampire has returned. Yay! In the previous book, Infernal , Mathew is horrified to discover a young 'Original' vampire boy, hidden and being tested on by the Network. Against the wishes of the law-enforcing Network, Mathew fights to stand up for what he believes in which is the release of the child, Sage. The Network are a powerful group of ancient vampires and disagree with Mathew's good intentions. To top it all off his twin brother, Adam, heads the Network and when his efforts fail Mathew finds himself with no choice other than to flee from the life he loves and his family and loving wife, to go into hiding.

This story (the third book) begins with Mathew being hunted down by dubious members of the vampire law enforcement, the Network. During the nine months he has been away, there wasn't a moment he didn't think of returning to his beloved wife, Dulcie. Unfortunately until he has defeated his enemies and changed vampire law, returning home remains an impossibility. Cast out from his society and living a totally different life, it seems only a matter of time before he must meet up with his brother Adam and go on trial for what he has done, even though this is the last thing he wants to do the relentless Network is adamant Mathew must be punished for his crimes.

Meanwhile, Vincent (a friend of Adam) is staying with Dulcie to protect her, but as he is such a babe magnet, Mathew worries he'll try it on with her. He is sure Dulcie will stay faithful, but Vincent can be very pervasive and the thought of them together drives him wild. Feeling bad about how he has left his wife and family to cope, he can't help thinking that maybe they will be better off without him. After all, he is a changed vampire leading a different life in the New York underworld, fighting in illegal fight rings, surrounded by new friends. How will Dulcie react if she sees that Mathew has become an undomesticated, almost feral slob? Will Mathew decide it will be better for everyone if he never returns? Besides, during his stay in the underworld, Mathew opened a clinic to help the sick who have little or no money , and they need his help more than ever now. Who else is going to help them when the Network refuses to acknowledge their existence?

I found this a great continuation of the Mathew and Dulcie romance. Readers will understand Dulcie's fears for her husband, whilst totally agreeing with Mathew's reasons for not wanting to go back until everything is sorted out. The danger involved far outweighs their emotions. As Mathew unravels more secrets involving the Network and his ex-boss, Jay Ashford, his internal and external conflicts develop into a nail biting read, especially when Mathew gets shot by a platinum bullet. I spotted a few 'small' similarities to Anne Rice's vampire books, in that, Geneva is reminiscent of the vampire child Claudia, and Mathew's newfound rock singing talents remind me of Lestat! However, this is as far as these resemblances go, as Kate Hill has a proven track record of painting an excellent picture with her own style. Her imaginative prose structures a unique, vampire plot, complete with intricate characters with colourful lives! If you are looking for a sizzling romance, packed with action and suspense, then this book is for you! All in all, God of the Grim is another fast page turner with a satisfying ending, well worthy of a space in your electronic bookshelf!
