One phone call... that's all it takes to throw Phyllis's life upside down.
It's almost Christmas when Phyllis receives a phone call from her Doctor, telling her that the latest mammogram is showing two shadows.
Already having a hospital background being an MS patient she realizes almost immediately that things are serious.

Phyllis is going through tests for breast cancer. At first she's having a hard time to talk to her family and friends about it, although they are very understanding.
So she finds her way to these chat rooms. There she can cry out her needs, talk about the pain and emotional feelings without having to put up a brave face...

A Journey from Pain to Love makes you stop and wonder about what you would do if something like this would happen to you, because we all know that it can happen to anyone. It also shows you that, although your family and friends probably would do everything they can to help you face this and conquer this cancer, the people who understand you the most are the people who are going through the same thing. I think there's no one who can understand a woman who is suffering better than another woman who's also suffering.

Phyllis Jankowiak has written a wonderful, heart-touching, emotional and realistic novel. It's not just a novel because she didn't only write her personal story down but she also made a comfort out of this book for people undergoing the same. Those people can find themselves in this book and put strength out of it. Also it's not only written for people who suffer from cancer but also for those who have the luck not having to deal with this awful disease that scares all of us. When I finished this book, I felt as if I had learned a lesson.  I think I now understand better how difficult life becomes when you are sick and in pain. It makes you feel more grateful that you are healthy.
